Ames Straw Poll Results

The AMES Straw Poll Results are in and Rep. Michele Bachmann came out on top.  Bachmann won by getting about 29% of the 16,892 cast.  Bachmann’s 4,823 vote total narrowly edged out Rep. Ron Paul came in 2nd with 4,671.  Both Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul used their ground organization to come out on top.

Texas governor Rick Perry earned 718 write in votes without participating earning him an unofficial 6th place over all.  Perry’s 6th place is very impressive considering that he just officially entered the race today.

 Perry’s vote total edged out front runner Mitt Romney who had 567 votes, but also did not participate officially.

Here are the Ames straw poll official results:

  • 4,823 – Bachmann
  • 4,671 – Paul
  • 2,293 – Pawlenty
  • 1,657 –  Santorum
  • 1,456 – Cain
  • 567 – Romney
  • 385 – Gingrich
  • 69 – Huntsman
  • 35 – McCotter

Rep. Bachmann’s win achieved several firsts for the Ames straw poll.  She is the first woman to have won and the first member of the House to win.  A house member has never finished in the top two spots and this year Bachmann and Paul finished 1st and 2nd.

    What version of IE are you using? Looks fine from my testing.
