By now, most of you have heard about this global warming thing and how it is going to destroy the planet.  For over the last several years, it has begun to be clear that the data from models used to push this hysteria does not match what is actually happening. Recently, there were reports from the IPCC that the Himalayan Glaciers were melting and would be gone by 2035.

You have also read stories about how the people responsible for some of the leading reports have been manipulating data. 

Now there is a story that the head of the IPCC (inter-governmental panel on climate change) has been hiding the fact that their prediction that the Himalayan Glaciers will melt by 2035 was based on hearsay and not even manipulated data.  Apparently the IPCC chief new that the data was in error prior to the Copenhagen summit, but hid the fact to keep the embarrassing truth from coming out prior to the summit.

The Copenhagen summit was all about getting rich countries (read as America) to pass massive taxes to slow their economies and cut carbon emissions.  The truth about the data in the IPCC reports would be very damaging to the UN’s attempt to hobble the American economy in order to create a better more fair world.

In the recent SOTU address, the President again called for congress to pass massive new taxes to help stop global climate change.  It’s time for the American people to demand that our politicians stop spouting global warming and climate change propaganda as truth.

Apparently, the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit had its email accounts hacked.  Firstly, we need to condemn the illegal hacking of those emails.  The people responsible should be prosecuted when found.

The emails themselves show a pattern of modifying the data to show that  the earth was warming when in fact it was not.  There was also a campaign to exclude and shun any scientist that pointed out errors during peer reviews of research.  In effect, only scientists that wouldn’t question the methods or results of a report were allowed to review the reports.

The true facts on global warming are ignored and fictional reports are created to influence public policy.

Some of the facts on global warming that have been ignored:

• The earth has been cooling since 1998 and not warming.
• The earth is currently below the 4500 year average temperature.
• The Al Gore charts show warming since the peak of the little ice age 300 years ago.  So yes, overall there has been a large warming since the last time it was the coldest, but that has always happened.
• There have been many times in the history of the earth that average temperatures have been much warmer than now.
• The facts show that CO2 levels are preceded by warming and not the other way around.
• Industry produces less than 3% of the CO2 in the atmosphere, the other 97% is from natural causes.

Why do the facts on global warming matter?  Because our government  is hell bent on “saving the planet” by passing massive taxes on energy in order to influence our choices.  Despite the facts against global warming, our several leaders in our government want to pass legislation that would destroy our economy.

We need to find ways to solve our energy problems and reduce pollution.  However, we don’t need to lie and invent reasons to take extreme measures that would reduce our freedoms and lower our standard of living.

The cap and trade bill is an attempt by our government to address global warming.  Our government has decided to ignore the true facts about global warming and has even suppressed any studies that bring up facts against global warming.

A post at Hot Air explains why this means that we wouldn’t see a cap and trade bill come to the floor of the senate or even a cap and trade vote anytime before the 2010 elections as many Democrats from red states would be unwilling to risk their careers on raising the cost of energy for voters through a cap and trade bill.

Many Americans that think they understand the global warming debate may find themselves asking, what is cap and trade?  The cap and trade theory is that by instituting a cap and trade tax, companies would put less CO2 into the atmosphere and those that due would pay the government to do so.  Companies that can reduce emissions of CO2 could sell or trade their carbon credits.

One major flaw of the cap and trade theory is that it ignores that the cap and trade tax would be passed on to energy consumers.  Several groups that support a cap and trade bill hope that is the case.  The cap and trade theory is that when energy is more expensive, people will use less energy saving the planet in the process.

The cap and trade theory doesn’t take into account that consumers just don’t use energy in their homes, but everything they buy consumes energy to produce and ship.  The cap and trade bill would in effect create a cap and trade tax that would raise the cost of all goods and services.

Hopefully, by the time this comes up again, most Americans and our representatives will know the facts about global warming and drop the idea of creating a massive tax increase on the American people.  This will help insure that a cap and trade senate vote would bring an end to the cap and trade bill.

“It’s a difficult schedule” with many members already “anxious” about health care reform” - Senator Dick Durbin

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) recently commented that it would be difficult to get health care reform and cap and trade passed this year.  With the President calling for health care reform, cap and trade, and new financial regulation this year, Senator Durbin indicated that it is unclear what the priority is after health care reform.

Part of the issue is that the Democrats are trying to push through legislation with controversial provisions that don’t have broad public support let alone bipartisan support.

Earlier in the year, it seemed possible that cap and trade would be stopped in the Senate, but it now seems that the “hurry up and rush through” tactic is backfiring and may push cap and trade out until next year.

Those in congress that were brave enough to do their jobs this August received an earful of reservations on health care reform and are worried about their political futures with an election coming in 2010.  If they follow the Democrat Party leadership and vote against their constituents, they may find themselves part of the unemployment statistics.

If the congressional leadership would only try to pass legislation that most of the congress and public support, they would be able to accomplish much more.  However, since they continue to push unpopular solutions to problems that everyone agrees needs to be addressed, lets hope these bills continue to stall in congress.

However, there is hope that this massive tax increase will be defeated in the senate.  Jay Cost at Realclearpolitics.com did a great job of of analyzing which senators are under pressure to defeat the bill.  According to the analysis, there are 15 senate democrats that will be under pressure to vote against the bill as their state voted against it in the house.

The key here is that if your senator is listed as being under moderate or significant pressure to vote against the bill, you need to call or email them now to let them know you do not support this tax increase to solve a problem that doesn’t even exist.  You can find the phone numbers and email addresses of your senators here.  If you lack the courage to call, it is very easy to email your senators.  Contact them now and let them know what you think.

Our government moved another step closer today to instituting a new major energy tax that will ultimately be paid for by every consumers.  There is even a provision in the bill that gives money to low income households to help off-set the price increases in energy usage.

There are so many things wrong with this bill, it is hard to know where to start.  The most glaring issue is that our government is in a hurry to pass this bill.  Why?  More and more studies are being published that show that man made global warming is at best wrong and and worst a hoax.

The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. — 13 times the number who authored the U.N.’s 2007 climate summary for policymakers.

There is a great story in the WSJ by Kimberly A. Strassel detailing several of the facts that our government and our media refuse to tell us.  As more and more people become aware of the lies that have been told to the American people, congress is worried that there will be ramifications for supporting the bill if they don’t act now.

Through yesterday, the Waxman-Markey bill totaled a little over 1,000 pages.  Early this morning, Congressman Waxman introduced an additional 300 pages of legislation to the bill.  I am concerned that most congressmen won’t even bother to read the new provisions before voting to pass the bill.  There is a good post over at Hotair laying out further issues with the bill.

The cost of the bill is also up for debate.  At one point, the CBO reported that it would cost the average American over $6,000 per year in extra costs.  This made Nancy Pelosi very mad and shortly afterward, the CBO came out with a new estimate of only a few hundred dollars per year per household.  However, this is due to a provision in the bill that relaxed the standards and prices for the next 10 years.  After which, you can expect to pay an additional $6,000 in energy taxes.  All of this to combat man made climate change which as at least highly debatable.

For example, it is estimated that the price of gas would raise by approximately 77 cents a gallon as oil refineries pay for additional permits.

If you want to put a stop to this non-sense, I urge you to call your representative.  Michelle Malkin has a post that lets you know who you should call and how to get in touch with them.  If you are so sure that man is causing global warming that you are willing to pay $6,000 to fight it, then by all means, call your representative to support them.  However, if you are sick and tired of legislation being rammed down your throat, call you representative and let them know that you do not support the Waxman Markey bill.

A great post by Paul Driessen over at Townhall likens the global warming disinformation to a corporate scandal.  If a drug company doctored evidence and skewed the results of studies, people would go to jail.  Yet we constantly see the reports from scientists who ignore contrary data and discount or go around peer reviews.

Our friends in the media continue to push this agenda and our children are taught that they and their parents are responsible for global warming.

Thousands of scientists say CO2 has little effect on planetary temperatures, and there is no climate crisis. Few developed countries are ready to commit economic suicide by agreeing to reduce their CO2 emissions by even one-tenth of what Waxman-Markey demands for the United States.

President Obama and the democrat party run congress are in favor of cap and trade legislation that will result in a massive energy tax for the American people.  They present it as a tax on those companies that produce earth warming CO2 without telling the people that consumers will pay the taxes and not the evil polluting companies.

If you ask the average American they would tell you that the earth is getting hotter.  However, over the last decade global average temperatures have been declining.  In fact, we are currently below the average temperature for the past 4,500 years.  Most global warming alarmists point out that we are hotter than 300 years ago ignoring the fact that 300 years ago was the low point of the little ice age that saw the coolest temperatures in over a thousand years.

This is not to say that we shouldn’t find ways to reduce pollution and be kind to the planet.  When I am in the market for a car, I would love to find an SUV or large vehicle that gets more than 30 mpg.  One day, we will get off of fossil fuels, but it doesn’t need to happen next week.  

We do not need to wreak our economy by shackling the American people with a massive energy tax to fund one of the political elites pet projects.
