A recent Gallup Poll taken this month shows that more Americans self identify themselves as Conservatives rather than Moderate or Liberal. The 10/26 poll shows that the breakdown between Conservatives/Moderate/Liberal is 40%, 37%, and 20%. One of the main reasons is the shift in independents who now identify themselves as conservative rather than moderate. 35% of independents identify themselves as conservative which is up 6 percentage points from 2008. Independents also saw a drop in moderate and liberals by 3 points and 2 points respectively. Republicans that identify themselves as conservative has remained steady between 2008 and 2009 with a small 1% jump. As America begins to gear up to the 2010 elections, it will be interesting to so how this trend impacts the mid-term elections. Follow @SteveMustanski
