Today, Glenn Beck, or Glen Beck if you aren’t familiar announced the start of the plan that he has been talking about on Glenn Beck radio and the Glenn Beck show.

The plan is aimed at reversing America’s march toward socialism.  Here is what Glenn Beck has to say about his plan from the Glenn Beck website:

“Education is key, and not just for our children. To that end, we will be conducting a series of conventions. These will be full-day experiences where you will be immersed in learning about topics ranging from self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country.”

“I have begun meeting with some of the best minds in the country that believe in limited government, maximum freedom and the values of our Founders. I am developing a 100 year plan. I know that the bipartisan corruption in Washington that has brought us to this brink and it will not be defeated easily. It will require unconventional thinking and a radical plan to restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting, using only the battlefield of ideas.”

“All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding.”

“On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country.”

According to an article in the NYT, “he made clear that he intends to help elect politicians aligned with his limited-government world view.”

2010 will be an interesting year indeed.

If you constantly find yourself in political discussions where somebody throws out such gems as “the second amendment only allows you to have a gun if you are in a militia”, “the general welfare clause of the constitution established the welfare system”, “capitalism caused the recent financial crisis”, this book is for you.

The book is a quick read and has an interesting format.  Each chapter presents a political hot button topic important to conservatives and liberals alike.  Each chapter is further divided into arguments from “idiots” in red along with a fact based response from Glenn Beck.

The book covers many topics such as Capitalism, Gun Rights, Education, Illegal Immigration, the Nanny State, Universal Health Care, and a thoughtful walk through the constitution.

After reading Arguing with Idiots, you will be armed with the facts to support you in any argument on many of today’s hot button political topics.

Although every chapter is a great read, the Capitalism, gun rights, and education chapters are some of the best.

The Capitalism chapter focuses on defending Capitalism and showing great examples of where government intervention has caused more problems than it has fixed.  From Amtrak to Fannie and Freddy, Glenn Beck shows how the government has failed at running businesses that are profitable.  Worse yet, the government run entities cost tax payers when they lose money.

For example, the Amtrak, has many lines that lose money every year.  However, because of politics, the lines are kept open and running despite losing money on every single passenger.

The gun rights chapter of Arguing with Idiots, Glenn Beck examines what the writers of the Constitution meant, often in their own words, when creating the second amendment.  This chapter also does a great job of showing how disarming law abiding citizens leads to greater gun violence.  This runs contrary to the “idiots argument” of less guns means less violence.

The education chapter does a great job of showing how the federal government and often the states have ruined our education system.  In this chapter, Glenn Beck shows that pouring more money into the bloated corrupt system doesn’t lead to better education.  For example, NY state spends the most per student and Utah spends the least.  However, the average test scores are almost identical.

If you constantly find yourself arguing with idiots who lean to the left, this book is full of facts that will enable you to present a good case.

The only real drawback of the book is that the majority of the citations are in the back of the book without clear references to each citation.  However, this minor flaw does not take away from the overall usefulness of the book.

Overall, Conservative Patriot HQ highly recommends the newest book by Glenn Beck.
